Write a reviewBought these beautiful, intense ink colours after a professional illustrator let our 5 year old grandchild paint with this palette. We took this one as a present on our family camping trip. Without prompting, our grandchild recognised the palette as the one recommended by the artist. She returned minutes later with a painting of The Orange Princess she had seen the illustrator create at the storytelling festival where he was painting and telling stories to children. Bargain inspiration!
I absolutely LOVE these vibrant energetic colours! They are very similar to colored ink and can be used very watered down for washes of beautiful colour or less so for bold and statement making blocks of colour. A few things to note, I recommend making a swatch of each colour on watercolour card and keep on the outside of the palette secured with an elastic band and then when using place into the lid so can be refered to, helping identify the colours due to them being very hard to see what's what in the pans.. then using a dedicated white saucer or porcelain palette to mix and add water, using a white pan to mix helps you see the paint clearer and assist judging the final mixed colour / consistency, Also this keeps the lid nice and clear and mess free.. they are quite staining, being more dye based pigments..this doesn't have to be a problem, it just means they can become wonderfully translucent and blooming, try on a thick watercolour stock 300g, rough coldpress.. (they still bloom on dampened canson xl A4 watercolour pad, which is a very good value pad for any artist especially younger creatives!) dampen the paper, but not puddling.. and then drop some water loosened mixed paint from your saucer or mixing palette onto the page.. and get ready for lots of happy smiling at the striking results!
For children (and adults alike!) this is a really beautiful product..(if you're concerned about staining get them (or yourself!) covered up in a cloth apron or old back to front flannel shirt with extra cloths for wiping hands. I have recommended these to lots of mums and dads and artists alike for many years, and gifted quite a few palettes to friends. They are a must to try! The effects they can produce are limited only to the imagination!
I especially love the backgrounds you can create with wet on wet! Then when dry working over the top in pen or more brushstrokes or coloured pencil / wax pastel, oil pastel etc..
..I will never stop telling everyone about this super discovery (ive never forgotten the first time i tried them either!)
The price is beyond a bargain, because they are so ink/dye like pigmented they do last a good while. 11/10 for these lovely unique paints!
If you enjoy free flowing and experimental art making give them a try, I'd love to see and read more reviews of one of my favourite fun pallettes! Have fun creating vibrant energetic pages! ❤️
