Write a reviewStopped in our tracks by the stark warning on the compacts saying "WARNING" Cancer !!!! Found this very blunt and disturbing . The next line refers you to the P65 Warning . Have you studied this yet ?? It refers to California Proposition 65 which states all products must carry a warning if they contain any harmful ingredients . I am sure they are just playing safe and you would probably have to be exposed to a lorry load of the offending chemical to cause any harm , nevertheless , we find it very worrying that it should make this very blunt comment in heavy print , especially for someone who suffers from asthma and who also has a lung condition . We look for ward to your comments and explanation before making any further decisions . MS
The warning you are referring to is California Proposition 65 warning. This has to be put on any item which may be sold in the state of California if it contains particular chemicals. The list contains a wide range of naturally occurring and synthetic chemicals that include additives or ingredients in pesticides, common household products, food, drugs, dyes, or solvents. The warning indicates that the product contains a material known to the state of California to cause cancer, birth defects, or reproductive issues. This is required even if the product only contains trace amounts of harmful chemicals. The manufacturer of PanPastel says that the pastels do not contain any materials in sufficient quantities to be known to be toxic or harmful to health. The products may contain ingredients that have toxicity data associated with them, such as titanium dioxide, carbon black, and crystalline silica. However, these ingredients are not present in concentrations or anticipated exposure levels that would be poisonous. You can read more about it on the manufacturers website here: https://justpaint.org/are-panpastel-colors-nontoxic/
I had never tried Pan Pastels before attending a one day workshop, and didn’t really know how to use them. We used them as a base layer then built up with Unison soft pastels. I was amazed and thrilled with the results. They lay down so smoothly and don’t seem to create much dust. I love them.
I love pan pastels and would buy the whole range if I could. They can be used in so many ways and are high in pigment. My first project with them was a portrait of my parents based on my mother's favourite family photo from the 80s. Next project will be using them on needle felted animals or polymer clay
