Goes without saying that they're softer than hog bristle or synthetic hog bristle, but arguably just as sturdy and hold their shape beautifully. I like a nice abstract brushstroke - which I'll admit is harder to achieve here, but not impossible. If anything, it just encourages me to use a broader range of values, which probably makes my work more interesting for the viewer.

Monarchs are brushes less soft than those of Kolinsky marten and I consider them valid, they also have a good tip.
