Caran D'Ache 2mm and 3mm graphite rods
I've used them for years. I'm reluctant to use anything else. None of them make any 'clay' noise. The HB is a lovely warm silver - doesn't do dark. The 6B is just the right side of 'greasy'. The 3B is reliably wonderful for sketching and notating. I could use it all day. And sometimes I do.

Nice soft leads with good working strength so don't keep breaking with reasonable care. Able to made nice soft, dark line and light ones as wanted.
