Derwent Tinted Charcoal XL Blocks are a highly versatile drawing tool combining compressed charcoal and a large, water-soluble stick. These sticks have a large size so are perfect for artists working on large scale pieces or eager to experiment with bold, expressive mark making techniques. Use all sides of the stick to create marks of different weights - the edges are perfect for delicate linework while a flat edge can be used to work with broad strokes. These sticks can also be broken down into smaller pieces or grated to form a fine powder. The tinted charcoal formula combines all the beauty of charcoal with a hint of colour. Iām naturally a more detailed artist in my drawing/painting. I deliberately bought the XL blocks to encourage me to work more loosely and have some fun whilst practising. I previously had the old colour set and purchased the separate colour that is now included in the new set. The blocks have the added bonus of being water soluble to give more options of use.
