Pigmented water resistant ink
All 3 & 4 star ratings for permanence
Work well with airbrush and technical pens
FW Artists' Ink is an acrylic based pigmented water resistant ink which have 3 & 4 star ratings for permanence. This high degree of lightfastness makes it ideal for the production of pictures for permanent display. The inks are pigment based giving good colour strength and fluidity. The colours can be substantially diluted to achieve the most subtle tones, very similar to watercolour. Such washes will dry to a water resistant clear film and successive layers of colour can be laid over in a highly predictable manner. The combination of subtle tone and strong colour overpainting suggests really interesting creative possibilities. FW inks also work well with airbrush and technical pens.
The range also includes a series of Shimmering colours, which can be used to add an extra tint of iridescent or ‘Shimmer’ when painted over other colours. The Shimmering colours appear white in the bottle but when shaken, they release the sediment which creates the colour ready for using. They are also great for creating almost metallic glazes to artwork.

Acrylic inks are made using a pigment and a binder much like oils, acrylics and watercolours. Sometimes the binder and pigment may separate in the bottle and will need shaking to mix them again so that they are ready for use. This is more common in colours such as white and yellow, so you may find that these colours need more shaking than darker colours. The degree of separation varies from one range to another, and should not be considered a fault.

Write a reviewI've only just started using these, in conjunction with acrylic paints but not with watercolour. They are excellent for underdrawing and line work with a reed pen, and for making bright colour statements. I have yet to use them for glazing. It is great fun to drop a little paint onto wet paper and manipulate the resulting blot. The colours are very bright, and have a 3 star rating, out of a max of 4. Whilst the inks are made from pigments rather than dyes (a good thing), the earth colours are not made from earth pigments but from a mixture of brighter colours and black, so should really be labelled "hue". The bottles need a good but gentle shake before you start painting.
Beautiful range of colours for this versatile medium. Fantastic effects can be obtined by letting the fluid colours flow into each other without any loss of colour strength.
There promises to be a whole world of effects just waiting to be tried.
I have produced some of my most exciting and admired work using them.
They extend and compliment tube acrylics and I cannot recommend them enough to other artists.
Dries quickly enabling easy sketching over page.
