I had this pen for a few months and I am a novice calligrapher. I'm mostly a traditional/digital artist but when I create pieces I leave the title on the piece, so I bought to give the letters some pizzazz rather than bland lines.
I struggled with it at first as being cackhanded as I am I constantly worry about breaking things, so I was careful getting the ink to flow.
At first I had no luck with the ink but eventually I got it to start running and was off. I find the effect to be pretty good and the edges were solid, but at some point I believe the tip was either damaged or hard some flaw, as I started getting a split line.
I prefer this design over something like the Uni-Ball as the Sakura has a flat edge instead of an angled one which aligns itself perfectly with my desired style of lettering and how I hold the pen.
Eventually however, I'm not sure what happened but the ink in the pen just seemed to explode whenever I tried using it (it actually ruined one of my pieces,) and has now become a little inconsistent in its ink flow (I had stored it horizontally as the package suggest but I reckon the "do not remove" tab may have been compromised somehow during use.)
The pen is great and I'm likely to get another one to replace it as I'm sure the fault was my own doing.
The line is relatively thin as well depending on your scale but is perfectly suited to usual lined paper (I apply it to A4 pieces.)
The nib can be used in a lot of ways which makes it useful
