Write a reviewI have both the Italia and Portofino pads. The Italia cold pressed is very very good with watercolour all round, but especially if you like a lot of detail with your watercolour work. I don't particularly work with tons of water but do like a lot of fine details with my work and I've found, out of all the paper I've ever tried, this to be right up there. The colours stay vibrant I've found. The Portofino paper does buckle slightly with water but work still looks as rich and as vibrant comparing with the Italia paper. For me though the Portofino really comes into its own when I've used it with coloured pencils. I've used Caran Dache Luminance, Faber Castell Polychromos and Derwent Lightfast on this hot pressed paper and love how vibrant the colours stay. The layers go on smoothly and blending works like a dream! Very affordable 100% cotton paper that's becoming a favourite of mine
Magnani have become my new favourite. I've used most other quality brands but I feel these outperform the rest.
They are 100% cotton and they take multi-layered watercolour and gouache, as well as coloured pencils easily.
I appreciate their range of shapes and sizes and I'll find it hard to go back to any other brand.
If you're looking for artists' high quality paper at comparatively reasonable prices, then I recommend you give Magnani a try.
I bought a block of "Toscana" on the off chance and I'm delighted with it. Granulating paints move beautifully on this paper. It suites my "style" very well. Excellent
