Saunders Waterford is an exquisite watercolour paper, traditionally made on a cylinder mould machine. This is the superior quality watercolour paper made by St Cuthberts Mill and comes with the Royal Watercolour Society’s endorsement. Made using 100% cotton, the highest quality papermaking material, to high archival standards. Each sheet is buffered with calcium carbonate to help defend finished pieces of work from discolouration caused by acids present in atmospheric pollution.
Its attractive surface is created using natural woollen felts that give it a distinctive random texture. The surface is sized in gelatine making it strong and resilient to scrubbing, and other rough treatments.
Available in White and High White, which we believe is the whitest archival watercolour paper made. Saunders Waterford® is a top quality professional watercolour paper.
Saunders Waterford is available in ROUGH, COLD PRESSED (NOT) and HOT PRESSED (HP).
The rough is the roughest paper, NOT is a medium texture and HP is smooth.

General Storage and Handling Instructions
Keep the paper in its original packaging until required.
Store the paper flat.
Avoid extremes of temperature or humidity.
Do not store in direct sunlight.
Handle the paper by the edges or underside. Avoid touching the area to be painted, as oils from the skin could affect the wash.
Painting
Lighter weight papers (300gsm/140lb and lighter) may benefit from soaking and stretching to avoid the paper cockling (buckling) when applying washes.
Avoid exposing the paper to detergents, as these can affect the paper’s absorbency.
Gelatine on the paper’s surface is most vulnerable when wet, and should be handled with care.
Masking Fluid shouldn’t be left on the paper for too long, as it becomes harder to remove the longer it’s left, sometimes making it impossible to remove without damaging the paper’s surface.
Avoid soaking the smooth HP sheets because the surface will become slightly rougher.
Fade Resistance and Framing
Frame finished paintings with acid free materials to preserve the paper’s archival qualities.
As with all original artworks, paintings should be framed behind glass and hung away from direct sunlight.

Write a reviewI use this paper almost exclusively. It is a wonderful surface and as stiff as cardboard so does not require stretching at 1/4 sheet size which frames up to a standard 20x16 frame.
I noticed that all great watercolourist such as Jozeph Zbukvic, David Curtis and Ross Paterson, uses Saunders Waterford. I have tried a wide range of varieties of paper, but this is my best experience ever! I am planning to order pack and packs from Ken Bromley for my own paper security!!!
I advice other artists or fans to do so for one reason: this paper protects the brilliance and the watercolour paint luminosity, one of the main condition of a successeful watercolour. It is very "faithfull" surface to the tones. and I realy like it. I use Rough surface. the best for me.

This fabulous watercolour paper is certainly fantastic quality. It is heavy duty and takes very wet washes without needing to be stretched. However, it is extremely absorbent and resists attempts to lift colour, even shortly after laying the paint. Due to its thickness, it stays damp for a long time allowing great results when using wet on wet techniques.
