Founded just outside Barcelona in Autumn 1933, the Escoda artist' brush company was the creative vision of Josep Escoda Roid. Brushes were created with the Decorative and Fine Arts in mind and the factory was the first of its kind in Spain. Josep Escoda's vision and passion for producing the best brushes in the world has meant that the company has been awarded in recognition of its dedication to consistency in both quality and efficiency. To date the company has produced nearly 75 million paint brushes, with close to a million brushes being produced each year!
From its inception, the company highlighted the importance of high-quality materials in the creation of a superior artists' brush. From the finest animal hairs - such as Kolinsky Sable of Tajmyr, to the Russian Squirrel and Chinese Hog - to the latest in innovative synthetics, Escoda carefully source their natural materials to create brushes that are renowned by artists around the world.
The process of designing and manufacturing an Escoda brush begins and ends with brush artisans, with each brush being created by hand. The triple crimp design is an exclusive trademark design for Escoda; it is applied to the brush to ensure a fixed ferrule that will remain in place for a lifetime of use. Each brush is printed with the appropriate size, brand, series name, hair type and city of manufacture. The handle is then formed and shaped ergonomically to ensure optimum comfort for the artist. The final step of the brush making process is to simultaneously iron and dry the brush hair.
Escoda's manufacturing methods and hand-crafted process consolidates and locks each hair in place to create a permanent brush shape. Their methods also increase the natural spring of the brush and its ability to snap back to its original form.
