The Sceptre Gold II Brush Range is a collection of high quality brushes made from a mixture of sable and synthetic fibres. While their properties make them ideal for use with watercolour they can also be used with most fluid colour, including acrylic, water-mixable oil, alkyd oil colour. It is well known that artists recognise pure sable brushes as the best for watercolour - but they can be very costly. This cost may compel artists to go for a cheaper synthetic alternative instead. Although today's synthetics certainly have come a long way, it is still considered that a pure sable brush will have the edge.

The Sceptre Gold II was developed to be a more affordable alternative to a pure sable brush, while still retaining some of the sable content. As it is a blend of pure sable and synthetic fibres it gives the performance of a sable but with a price that is closer to a synthetic. The hair blend of the Sceptre Gold II also gives some added benefits. The sable hair provides excellent spring whilst the high quality synthetic filaments ensure that the brushes are soft enough to work the colour but also have a strong snap so they return back to their original shape with ease.

The sable hairs in the brush taper to a fine point, giving the brush control for detailed work. The hair also has excellent spring and the choice of polyester filament ensures that the brushes are soft enough to work with but that they have a strong snap so that they return to their original shape with ease.
The high proportion of sable hairs in the brush gives a greater colour holding capacity than a brush with synthetic hair alone, which means that much larger washes can be created with ease.
The round profile brush has been especially designed to create a very fine point, meaning that thin lines can be created easily with greater control.
Sceptre Gold II Series 606 have much more hair in the ferrule, and consequently have a greater colour carrying capacity.
The ferrules are made from seamless gold-plated brass, which helps to prevent corrosion, clogging of the hair and enables easy cleaning.
The handles are specifically designed to provide balance and comfort when painting
Sceptre Gold II brushes feature attractive stained handles. The extra hard finish prevents water and solvent penetration.
As is always the case with brushes, it is paramount that they are cared for and cleaned correctly. We do have a handy page with cleaning and care instructions for watercolour brushes if you have any questions. Following these cleaning procedures will extend your brushes useable life!
